Room To Grow - Leslie Baird

Mayor, Leslie Baird

Over the past decade, the Village of Cumberland has worked to establish and actualize the lands on Bevan Road as industrial. And that plan has finally come to fruition.

“We’ve completed the Bevan concept plan as well as the Cumberland Economic Development strategy for the entire Bevan area and we’re ready to move this direction forward,” says an enthusiastic Mayor Baird.

In recent years many young families and entrepreneurs have moved to the Valley choosing to make the Village of Cumberland home.  With a population just under 5,000 and an average age of 39, Cumberland is enjoying a resurgence in new independent businesses and community vitality.

Surrounded by lakes, trails and mountains, Cumberland is perfect for those who enjoy outdoor recreation and a work-life balance.  There is an authentic sense of community here.

With 75% of Cumberland’s tax revenue coming from residents, it has been very challenging to give the people the kinds of services they expect from their community.  “The Bevan industrial development is going to make a huge difference to residents of the Village of Cumberland,” explains Baird.  “It will add significantly to our tax base allowing us to fix our infrastructure, to upgrade our sewer system, fix our roads and provide the level of services people need and expect.”
